Τα κτίρια των κατοικιών μαζί με αυτά του τριτογενή τομέα
αποτελούν τον μεγαλύτερο καταναλωτή ενέργειας στην Ευρώπη, ενώ παράλληλα ευθύνονται για το 45% των εκπομπών του διοξειδίου του άνθρακα στην ατμόσφαιρα.
Στην εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζονται :
α) οι στόχοι και οι απαιτήσεις της οδηγίας,
β) οι βασικές αρχές του βιοκλιματικού σχεδιασμού και
γ) ο τρόπος κατασκευής κήπων σε δώματα παλαιών ή νεόδμητων κτιρίων.

This technical guidance sets out the requirements for the Code, and the process by which a Code assessment is reached. It aims to make gaining a Code assessment as simple, transparent and rigorous as possible.
The latest version is the 'May 2009 Version 2' guide which comes into effect on 22 June 2009. For homes registered on or after this date, the May 2009 Version 2 will apply. The October 2008 version (which is available in the related publications section) will only apply to homes registered before this date.
This technical guidance manual underpins the publication: The Code for Sustainable Homes: Setting the standard in sustainability for new homes  that was published on 27 February 2008.

A summary of changes between the October 2008 version of the Code for Sustainable Homes Technical Guidance and the May 2009 version can be found in the publication  Code for Sustainable Homes Summay of Changes Technical Guide - May 2009 Version 2 .
The indoor water use (Wat 1) section now uses the Water Efficiency Calculator (external link) for New Dwellings as the assessment.

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is an imprecise term used to describe those buildings in which there is a prevalence of a range of symptoms causing discomfort and a sense of being unwell rather than a distinct illness. There is a particularly high incidence in certain types of buildings, especially offices which are sealed and mechanically ventilated or air-conditioned. SBS is a complex phenomenon, and although a number of potential contributory factors have been suggested, much of the evidence is circumstantial, and no single underlying cause has been found. It is probable the cause is multi-factorial. Clinically-diagnosed illnesses which can readily be attributed to a particular cause, such as humidifier fever, Legionnaires' Disease, or exposure to a toxic agent in the workplace environment are not usually regarded as SBS.

The paper reports on a housing project developed by Beis & Associates relatively the installation of green roofs and roof ponds at a sea side residence in Porto Rafti, Greece. The objective was to explore the abilities of this building type to reduce non-renewable energy consumption and hence to obtain an environmental character. Houses in Porto Rafti consume large amount of energy in order to cool during the hot period in summer. Roof is generally the most exposed element of the building's external envelop to the solar radiation. The paper supports the implementation of green roofs and roof ponds to aid the housing sector in dissipating the excess heat gains. In order to test the thermal performance of the house and thus the benefits of using green roofs in housing projects, simulations have been done by using TAS software. The first step was to create the reference building as a base case which is the model including the implementation of the Greek regulations for thermal insulation. Afterwards, an exploration of the installation of green roof, natural ventilation and Low E glazing with argon in the windows was done. Finally, an examination of roof ponds, by literature review, was done. Conclusively, roof ponds and green roofs can help houses in Porto Rafti to reduce the annual loads and energy consumption.

The GRACC (Green roofs against climate change) LIFE project (LIFE07 ENV/UK/000936) recently launched the GRO Green Roof Code, which provides practical guidance on green roof best practice in the UK.

Green roofs have become a more common feature in towns and cities in recent years, but maximum environmental benefits have not always been realised due to a lack of specific guidelines. In response to this, the Green Roof Organisation (GRO), an industry partnership that implemented the project, has developed and launched a UK code of best practice.

Funded by LIFE and Groundwork Sheffield, the GRO Code was also facilitated by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC). Welcoming the publication of the code, NFRC’s Chief Executive, Ray Horwood CBE, said, “a UK specific code of best practice is long overdue, and the launch of The GRO Green Roof Code is welcome news for everyone involved in the green roof industry. By adhering to best practice, the numerous benefits of green roofs can be maximised, and the long term sustainability of green roofs ensured. The GRO Green Roof Code will set the benchmark for the industry.”
