Catalysing an energy revolution to address the number one threat facing our planet: climate change.

Defending our oceans by challenging wasteful and destructive fishing, and creating a global network of marine reserves.

Protecting the world’s ancient forests and the animals, plants and people that depend on them.

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.

Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.

Our focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

9   Link   DIVERSITAS
Biodiversity underpins the life-support system of our planet. Yet several factors, including human behaviour, have brought us to a critical point. The world is experiencing an unprecedented rate of species extinction, which may have far-reaching consequences for all life forms.

DIVERSITAS brings together biological, ecological and social sciences to address four key questions that underlie our limited understanding of the current situation.

* How did biodiversity evolve in space and time to reach current state?
* How much biodiversity exists and how does its change or loss affect the system as a whole?
* How does biodiversity correspond to the delivery of ecosystem functions and services, and what is the true value of these commodities?
* How can scientific investigation support policy and decision making to encourage more sustainable use of biodiversity?

Armed with a broader, deeper knowledge of biodiversity, we will be better equipped to safeguard the future of Earth’s natural resources.

our international global environmental change research programmes: DIVERSITAS, IGBP, IHDP, and WCRP joined together to form the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP). The ESSP brings together researchers from diverse fields, and from across the globe, to undertake an integrated study of the Earth System:

* its structure and functioning;
* the changes occurring to the System;
* the implications of those changes for global and regional sustainability.

The interactions and feedbacks between the component parts of the Earth System exhibit multi-scale temporal and spatial variability. Understanding of the System's natural dynamics has advanced greatly in recent years, and now provides a sound basis for evaluating the effects and consequences of human-driven change. ESSP contributes to this endeavour through a number of activities:

13   Link   FERN - Forests and the European Union Resource Network,
FERN is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) created in 1995 to keep track of the European Union’s involvement in forests and coordinate NGO activities at the European level. Our work centres on forests and forest peoples’ rights and the issues that affect them such as trade and investment and climate change. All of our work is done in close collaboration with social and environmental organisations and movements across the world. The name FERN was chosen because ferns are one of the few species that grow in all forests.

FERN has no director and strives to make decisions by consensus. This drives our way of working which is to open rather than occupy space for dialogue on the issues that affect forests and the environment.

FERN has staffed offices in Brussels, Belgium, Moreton-in-Marsh, UK and an administrative office in Leiden, the Netherlands.

An essential step in creating a one-planet future is measuring human impact on the Earth so we can make more informed choices.

That is why our work aims to accelerate the use of the Ecological Footprint — a resource accounting tool that measures how much nature we have, how much we use, and who uses what.

Safe Chemicals & Adequate Provision of Health Care for All
Safe and Sustainable Energy & Climate Protection for All
Safe Food Production & Sustainable Rural Development for All
Safe Water and Sustainable Sanitation for All
Gender Equity in Sustainable Development & Environmental Rights and Public Participation

The European Climate Foundation is dedicated to developing and implementing well-crafted climate and energy policies that greatly reduce Europe's global greenhouse gas emissions. Key elements of a sustainable energy future include: (1) a substantial increase in energy efficiency, (2) a successful transition from conventional to renewable energy; (3) maintenance of the earth’s ecological systems and the life-supporting services they provide; and, (4) equitable distribution of energy services to different members of the population, both internationally and within nations. We can take significant steps toward that future today.
