The European Commission is urging Cyprus to send details about how EU legislation on the storage of metallic mercury considered as waste is being enacted in their domestic law.

After Cyprus missed the original deadline of 15 March 2013, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice giving Cyprus two months to reply.

As no reply has been received, the Commission is sending a reasoned opinion. If Cyprus fails to act within two months, the case may be referred to the EU Court of Justice.
